Product FAQs
Q1: What is the VCHRGD Seven Pro?
The VCHRGD Seven Pro is a 7.4 kW smart EV charger for home or workplace installation. It’s a “next-gen” model from VCHRGD: compact, smart, and designed to meet modern charging needs.
Q2: Does it work with all electric vehicles?
Yes — the Seven Pro uses a Type 2 socket or cable, so it’s compatible with essentially all EVs and plug-in hybrids sold in the UK/Europe that use Type 2 charging.
Q3: What’s the difference between tethered and untethered versions?
- Tethered version: Comes with a permanently attached Type 2 cable (often ~7.5 m), ready to plug in — convenient if you use the same car regularly.
- Untethered version: Provides a Type 2 socket — you use your own cable. This is useful if you have multiple EVs or want flexibility, and also makes cable storage easier.
Q4: Can I control charging remotely / on a schedule?
Yes. The Seven Pro supports app control via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, allowing you to schedule charging sessions, monitor energy usage, lock/unlock the charger, and receive firmware updates. It also supports dynamic load balancing and can integrate with solar panels — useful if you have home generation set-up.
Q5: Is the charger safe and suitable for outdoor installation?
Yes. The unit is built with several safety and durability features: PEN protection, RCD / DC-leakage detection, under- and over-voltage protection, and compliance with relevant safety standards. The casing is weather-resistant (IP54 or IP55 depending on version) and robust (impact-resistant casing), so it’s suitable for outdoor installation.
Q6: What installation and maintenance does the Seven Pro require?
Installation must be done by a qualified electrician. The Seven Pro has a modular “push-fit” design, which simplifies installation and makes future servicing easier — parts like the front panel can be swapped without dismantling the entire unit. Once installed, maintenance is minimal: regular checks and firmware/app-based updates are all that’s generally needed.
Installation FAQs
Q1: Do I need a survey before installation?
Yes. Before we can book your EV charger installation, you must complete a home electrical survey.
Q2: How long does the survey take?
The online Jumptech survey usually takes 5 minutes to complete.
Once submitted, our technical team will review your information and confirm whether your installation is standard or non-standard.
Q3: What is a standard installation?
A standard install typically includes:
- Charger installed within ~15 metres of your consumer unit/electricity meter
- No upgrades required to your existing electrical supply
- Suitable WiFi or mobile signal for smart chargers
- No groundworks or extended cable runs
- Granting access
- Agreeing the final charger position
- Demonstration of the charger once installation is complete
- Upgrade your consumer unit
- Install new earthing or bonding
- A reliable WiFi connection, or
- A strong mobile data signal This allows features such as scheduling, load balancing, and usage monitoring to function properly.
- Ensure the engineer has clear access to your consumer unit and intended charger location
- Move any cars from the driveway
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Complete the Jumptech survey in advance
- Have your charger (if supply-only) ready on site
- Test the charger
