The Ohme Home Pro is a tethered unit, complaint with latest regulations. The connection is a Type 2 connection plug, it delivers 7kW of power (25 miles/hour). Featuring either a 5m also available in 8m cable lead. Controlled via the mobile app or the on unit LCD screen, you can reliably charge your car at home. The charger also features a home power balancing and an in built earthing. What are our engineers thoughts about this charger? “This charger has always been one of the simplest chargers to install and they always work as they should do without any issues. The charger itself feels solid and quality as well as the lead and plug. A standard install from start to finish with an easy set-up process for the commissioning stage. Product FAQs

Q1: What is the Ohme Home Pro?

The Ohme Home Pro is a smart home EV charger delivering 7.4 kW (single-phase, 32 A) — ideal for overnight charging at home. It comes with a tethered Type 2 cable (usually 5 m, with an optional 8 m version) permanently attached.

Q2: Is the Ohme Home Pro compatible with all electric vehicles?

Yes — as long as your EV (or plug-in hybrid) uses a Type 2 connector, the Home Pro will work. However, it isn’t compatible with older vehicles using a Type 1 connector.

Q3: Does the charger need Wi-Fi, and will it still work if signal is poor?

You do not need to rely on your home Wi-Fi — the Home Pro has a built-in 3G/4G SIM card, so it connects to a mobile network. That means it usually works fine even if Wi-Fi or mobile-phone coverage is poor — though good mobile-signal reception at the charger location improves reliability.

Q4: Can I schedule charging and make use of cheaper electricity tariffs or solar energy?

Yes. Through the companion app or the built-in charger screen, you can set charging schedules (e.g. overnight), define a target battery percentage, and set a maximum price cap per kWh. The Home Pro is also solar-panel compatible (with a CT-clamp), so if you generate excess solar power, it can prioritise that for charging.

Q5: Is the charger safe and weather-resistant?

Yes — the Home Pro has built-in safety features including an earthing protection (PEN fault device), DC-leakage/RCD protection, and dynamic load-balancing to avoid overloading your home electrical supply. It’s also rated with an ingress-protection standard (IP55/IP54 depending on vendor), so it’s suitable for outdoor installation.

Q6: What does installation involve, and is a professional electrician required?

Installation is generally straightforward: the Home Pro’s built-in earthing protection means you usually don’t need an external earth rod or extra grounding equipment, which reduces installation complexity. That said, professional installation is required — both to ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and to set up the charger properly (e.g. configuring circuit protection, cable routing, load balancing).

Installation FAQs

Q1: Do I need a survey before installation? Yes. Before we can book your EV charger installation, you must complete a home electrical survey. Q2: How long does the survey take? The online Jumptech survey usually takes 5 minutes to complete. Once submitted, our technical team will review your information and confirm whether your installation is standard or non-standard. Q3: What is a standard installation? A standard install typically includes:
  • Charger installed within ~15 metres of your consumer unit/electricity meter
  • No upgrades required to your existing electrical supply
  • Suitable WiFi or mobile signal for smart chargers
  • No groundworks or extended cable runs
If the survey identifies additional work, your installation may be classified as non-standard, and we’ll provide a tailored quote. Q4: Can I choose my installation date before completing the survey? No. The survey must be completed and approved first. This ensures we understand your setup, bring the correct materials, and send the right engineer for your installation. Q5: How long does installation take? A typical domestic installation takes around 2–4 hours. Non-standard installs may take longer depending on cable length, groundworks, or additional safety upgrades. Q6: Do I need to be at home during the installation? Yes, someone of 18 years or older must be present for:
  • Granting access
  • Agreeing the final charger position
  • Demonstration of the charger once installation is complete
Q7: Will you need to turn off my electricity? Yes. To work safely, the engineer will carry out an isolation at your main fuse, meaning the power wIll be off for a short period — usually 10–20 minutes. Q8: Will my home need any additional electrical work? It depends on the results of your survey. If required, we may need to:
  • Upgrade your consumer unit
  • Install new earthing or bonding
Q9: Do I need WiFi for the charger to work? Most smart chargers require either:
  • A reliable WiFi connection, or
  • A strong mobile data signal This allows features such as scheduling, load balancing, and usage monitoring to function properly.
Q10: What should I prepare before the installation?
  • Ensure the engineer has clear access to your consumer unit and intended charger location
  • Move any cars from the driveway
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Complete the Jumptech survey in advance
  • Have your charger (if supply-only) ready on site
Q11: Will you notify my DNO about the installation? Yes. We will handle any required notifications to the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) as part of the installation process. Q12: What happens after the installation is complete? Our engineer will:
  • Test the charger
  • Demonstrate how to use it
  • Provide guidance on the app setup
  • Complete certification and compliance documents These will be emailed to you shortly after the visit.
