Product FAQs

Q1:  What is the Ohme ePod?

The Ohme ePod is a compact, wall-mounted smart EV charger designed for home charging. It uses Ohme’s intelligent software to optimise charging around off-peak energy tariffs, schedules, and vehicle requirements.

Q2:  How fast does the Ohme ePod charge my car?

The ePod is a 7.4kW charger, which typically provides around 25–30 miles of range per hour depending on your vehicle. Charging speeds may vary slightly based on your car’s onboard charger.

Q3:  Does the Ohme ePod work with all electric vehicles?

Yes. The Ohme ePod is compatible with all EVs and plug-in hybrids that use a Type 2 connector (standard for UK/European vehicles).

Q4: Can I schedule charging to take advantage of cheaper energy rates?

Yes. Using the Ohme app, you can set charging schedules that align with your off-peak or EV-friendly energy tariffs. The charger can automatically charge at the cheapest available times.

Q5: Do I need Wi-Fi for the Ohme ePod to work?

No Wi-Fi is required at your property. The ePod connects using built-in cellular connectivity, meaning it can communicate with the Ohme app without using your home internet.

Q6:  Does the Ohme ePod require a tethered cable?

No. The ePod is a socket-only (untethered) charger, so you use your own Type 2 charging cable. This keeps the unit compact and tidy, and makes it suitable for most driveways.

Installation FAQs

Q1: Do I need a survey before installation? Yes. Before we can book your EV charger installation, you must complete a home electrical survey. Q2: How long does the survey take? The online Jumptech survey usually takes 5 minutes to complete. Once submitted, our technical team will review your information and confirm whether your installation is standard or non-standard. Q3: What is a standard installation? A standard install typically includes:
  • Charger installed within ~15 metres of your consumer unit/electricity meter
  • No upgrades required to your existing electrical supply
  • Suitable WiFi or mobile signal for smart chargers
  • No groundworks or extended cable runs
If the survey identifies additional work, your installation may be classified as non-standard, and we’ll provide a tailored quote. Q4: Can I choose my installation date before completing the survey? No. The survey must be completed and approved first. This ensures we understand your setup, bring the correct materials, and send the right engineer for your installation. Q5: How long does installation take? A typical domestic installation takes around 2–4 hours. Non-standard installs may take longer depending on cable length, groundworks, or additional safety upgrades. Q6: Do I need to be at home during the installation? Yes, someone of 18 years or older must be present for:
  • Granting access
  • Agreeing the final charger position
  • Demonstration of the charger once installation is complete
Q7: Will you need to turn off my electricity? Yes. To work safely, the engineer will carry out an isolation at your main fuse, meaning the power wIll be off for a short period — usually 10–20 minutes. Q8: Will my home need any additional electrical work? It depends on the results of your survey. If required, we may need to:
  • Upgrade your consumer unit
  • Install new earthing or bonding
Q9: Do I need WiFi for the charger to work? Most smart chargers require either:
  • A reliable WiFi connection, or
  • A strong mobile data signal This allows features such as scheduling, load balancing, and usage monitoring to function properly.
Q10: What should I prepare before the installation?
  • Ensure the engineer has clear access to your consumer unit and intended charger location
  • Move any cars from the driveway
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Complete the Jumptech survey in advance
  • Have your charger (if supply-only) ready on site
Q11: Will you notify my DNO about the installation? Yes. We will handle any required notifications to the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) as part of the installation process. Q12: What happens after the installation is complete? Our engineer will:
  • Test the charger
  • Demonstrate how to use it
  • Provide guidance on the app setup
  • Complete certification and compliance documents These will be emailed to you shortly after the visit.
